Golden Retrievers are one of the most adored canine pets all over the world. The talents of the breed include: search and rescue work, hunting, tracking, agility, obedience, and such. These dogs are very beautiful and do not require excessive care. The temperament of the breed is sweet and friendly, which makes the dog a perfect companion for families and individuals.
This breed is often referred to as one of the best human companions. They are intelligent and are willing to please the owner. The dogs are very people oriented and tend to be mischievous if deprived of human contact. When acquiring a puppy, keep in mind that these dogs need to be around the owner and do not do well if left alone for long periods of time.
The American Kennel Club has established the breed standard for the Golden Retriever. Breeders and owners should make themselves familiar with the standard to make sure they breed or acquire high quality dogs.
Height: Adult dogs stand about 20-24 inches at the shoulder with females being generally smaller than males.
Weight: Female Golden Retriever dogs weigh from 55 to 70 pounds, whereas male dogs are about 60-80 pounds.
Golden Retrievers Puppy - Care Requirements
The Golden retriever dog is not very difficult to care for its needs. The breed is generally healthy, yet it may suffer from a few hereditary disorders. Breeders should make sure they breed only healthy dogs and should perform tests yearly. The breed may be prone to hip dysplasia and eye problems. The Golden Retriever also suffers from allergy and heart conditions. Buyers should ask for health certificates when buying a puppy.
Golden Retrievers are very active dogs, yet they may be kept in an apartment if exercised daily. These dogs love to fetch things and perform various tricks. Golden Retriever owners state that the breed is perfect for play. Children are sure to have a lot of fun when spending time with these cute companions. Exercise is especially important for Golden Retrievers, as they are prone to becoming overweight.
