Puppies are very rarely surrendered by their owners; the majority of abandoned dogs are senior. Adult and senior dogs are a good choice for working people and those who have no time for socializing and housetraining a puppy.

The volunteer staff of such organizations does all their best to help abused, homeless, neglected or displaced animals and provide them with temporary shelter in foster families while the permanent home is being searched for. The dogs receive necessary treatment and training. Foster families evaluate the temperament and health of the dogs to find the most suitable owners. Such organizations also work at reducing the unwanted pets overpopulation and encourage humane treatment of animals.
